The Akaa Project has always been about creating opportunity - opportunities that allow children to dream big, think beyond their circumstances and what they know, and expand their possibilities. The Akaa Project established and supports the Asiafo Amanfro Community School, impacting 130 children daily in the Eastern Region of Ghana. With a ground-level, community-based approach, we improve teaching methods through teacher training, focus on empowering young readers through literacy and organize programs that give students their first lessons on computers.
In July, we graduated our first class from grade 6, marking the end of their primary school education. Joining our Kindergarten class in our founding year, 2008, these children have never known a community without a school. But their older siblings and parents remember. Back then only about 20% of children would complete school. And now, with 100% of grade 6 students graduating and all continuing their education at local junior high schools, we're helping change the opportunities for these children and their families .
Our ability to grow with our students, from our eager 4 year olds to our recent rockstar graduates, is because of you, our generous and trusted friends and supporters. You make this possible.
